It couldn't have been better timing, what with all the cold, wet weather Toronto has been having this season. Hunter Boots has opened their first flagship location in North American at Yorkdale Shopping Centre and Govan Brown was not only there to show our support, but we were there right from the beginning. The British import opened its third global location on November 10th. The 2,800 square foot store boasts more than just rain boots; they also carry bags and plenty of outerwear. The vibrant store was designed by Hunter's in-house design team led by Stella McCartney's Creative Director husband, Alasdhair Willis. To read more about Hunter Boots new store, click here.

The greatest show on planet earth happened on Thursday, August 24th, at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. Govan Brown made cor-porate history by hosting an event, unlike any other. Cureapalooza was borne from the idea to raise money for charity but with a completely different attitude. We tinkered with a few concept names, boobaroo, boobstock, boobapalooza, forsheaga ... but eventually, we agreed upon Cureapalooza, mainly because we were able to alternate the different charity organizations we wanted to be in receipt of our efforts. This year, we partnered with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation/Canadian Cancer Society and donated $50,000 towards their causes and we really couldn’t have done it without the help of our staff who made this event happen by organizing the event, and buying and selling tickets. This year, we had local Toronto bands the Arkells headline, with the Birds of Bellwoods as the opening act. Cureapalooza was officially trademarked by Govan Brown as we anticipate this event being a yearly initiative. Over 650 concert goers were treated to a live and intimate performance by the Juno award winning band and the Birds of Bellwoods have already asked if they could participate in next year’s event! All of the feedback we received from fans, the venue and clients/trades were all positive even noting that this was the best Arkells concert they had been to. Kudos to the Internal Marketing Committee (Spencer Bowers, Tyler Brown, Mackenzie & Katrina Herd, Sarah Paul, Rose Rencius, Ryan Thomson, and Sophia Yilmaz) for putting on such a great show and Mackenzie Herd for organizing the event (Mack celebrated his birthday on the same day and was serenaded with a happy birthday song from the Arkells). And to Joe Kirk who takes chances and dreams big.
We have some very exciting news to share. Govan Brown has joined the Structure Tone family of companies. We’ve spent the last 25 years working hard to become the top interiors contractor in Canada. We wanted to ensure the next 25 years would be just as successful, and what better way to do that than to partner with a firm that is extremely similar to ours and shares our values and client-focused approach. Structure Tone is not only a leader in commercial interiors across the US, UK and Ireland, but their organization does so much more. Rest assured this change will not affect the way we work with you—we are retaining our Company name, our People and our current Leadership, and our Client-first approach. But we do expect that this enhanced expertise and reach will bring more value and opportunities to our Clients and Industry Partners as we draw from our wider geographic footprint and network of experts and resources. Another exciting outcome of the merger will be the ability of many our team members to become shareholders in the business – further enhancing their engagement and building on our commitment to be the top employer in our market. Govan Brown has embraced the use of technology to help organize our projects since the technology industry started providing construction software to its end users like us. The implementation of programs like PlanGrid, CMiC, and DocuSign have made it easier for us and our clients to organize the steady flow and exchange of information. Check out this news release on the use of PlanGrid and how it has impacted Govan Brown and the services we are able to provide. Click here to read more.
